William Sherwood "Billy" Crain (born August 9, 1954 in Nashville, Tennessee) is an American songwriter and musician. He has been a staple performer in the Southern rock scene since the early 1970s. He's the younger brother to former Charlie Daniels Band guitarist Tommy Crain, who died in 2011. He has performed with various artists including The Allman Brothers Band, The Rossington-Collins Band, The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. In the late 1980s he pursued songwriting and record production.
Billy Crain has played in front of a crowd of 1,100,000 people and he has played for an empty club on Christmas Eve called Losers. He’s received royalty checks for 6-figures and others for less than a quarter. I’ve been an Outlaw, a Bellamy Brother, a Music Row songwriter and producer and session guitar player, won songwriter awards, received multi-platinum sales awards and ended up shoveling horse manure to pay my child support. Learning guitar from his brother, Tommy Crain, Billy was fortunate enough to see Hendrix, Allman, Clapton, Albert King, and Page perform as a teenager. I don’t need to go on about the production quality, the great songwriting, or how a rock legend just released a great album.
