The title track of Maximo Park's sixth album addresses the crisis of dislocated people. Frontman Paul Smith explained to Artist Direct why the issue is so important to him: "I'd seen an article in a newspaper in the UK. It was a longread article and so it went a little bit further than just a news story. Asked by HM. om when the title "Risk To Exist" popped into his head, Paul Smith replied: "I was reading Don DeLillo while we were writing and something in his book Mao II made me think about the idea of birth, how fragile people are when they're born and how life could all go in an instant. It seemed to go well with the idea of people being in distress. I was watching the refugee crisis happen and I was following that and seeing all these people drown trying to get Europe, and all those horrible and powerful images seemed to coalesce.

Maxïmo Park are set to release new album 'Risk To Exist' on April 21st. The much-loved North East indie titans broke cover last night (January 19th), sharing their new single with Steve Lamacq's 6Music show. Paul explains: "The album is, ultimately, about empathy. 1. What Did We Do To You To Deserve This? 2. Get High (No, I Don't) 3. What Equals Love? 4. Risk to Exist 5. I'll Be Around 6. Work And Then Wait 7. The Hero 8. The Reason I Am Here 9. Make What You Can 10. Respond To The Feeling 11. Alchemy.

Maximo Park succeed, first and foremost, because of their strong sense of identity. The mid-2000s in Britain saw a seeming production line of identikit, pseudo-awkward, jagged and angular indie bands, most of whom rode the hype train as far as the end of one or (in rarer cases) two album cycles, usually being hyperbolically lavished with the ‘this band is so important’ tag, before disappearing into anonymity. So far so good, and if the band tickle your fancy just from the pleasantness of their sound, then Risk To Exist will tick the same boxes the last decade of work has, even if they don’t take any rea. ell, risks or sidesteps in their presentation.

Does Discogs differentiate signed versions? I have the black (standard) version, but cover is signed by the band - issues direct from band webstore.
