I recently had a big makeup declutter, and at first, I was so happy with my vanity area. But sadly, minimalism is not for me. I like to use the same products over and over, but at the same time, I enjoy having options. With that in mind, I went on a little shopping spree and spent 100£ on makeup. Not my proudest moment, but also nothing to dwell on. I work hard, I choose what to do with my money. Originally I was thinking of doing a haul, but I wanted to take my time and talk about the products, and the decision behind buying them. In true fashion to my brand, I`m always late to the party. Cause everyone was raving about this collection when it first came out. And although I rarely keep up with new releases, I also like to wait and see if the hype was real.
Sophdoesnails is a popular British Youtuber, and I am a fan of her bubbly personality. However, I had my doubts before getting her products. I am not going to sugarcoat it, I do believe that some influencers like to slap their name on some stuff, and call it a day. I am not going to give names, as it is a personal opinion and not an attack. Anyway, I am happy to say that this collab is freaking awesome.
First of all, let us talk about the price. Priced at 8£, the highlighting palette contains 8×0.07oz/2g shades, whilst for 10£ you get 24×0.038oz/1.1g eyeshadow in the eye palette. The pans are more than generous, and I love the fact that even though it`s a collab, it is not overpriced. The packaging is pretty and feminine, in harmony with Soph’ personality. From what I understood she designed the pattern on the box herself, so kudos for that.
I am going to start with my favourite item, the eyeshadow palette, which has a nice mix of 14 matte shades and 10 shimmery ones. The selection is good, and there is something for everyone. You can create so many looks using this palette, and I just love the fact that there are so many matte shades in here. They are soft, pigmented and blend well. I also have to mention that you can use some glitters as highlighters, and some of the dark matte shadows as brow powders. I did some swatches, but they don’t really make them justice as I am terrible at that.
Left to right: Penguin, Pancakes, Fairy Lights, Pink Champagne (both gorgeous as highlighters), Iced Coffee, Cuppa Tea
Left to right: Grow Old, Sparks Fly, Smokey Bronze, Mixed Berries, Tiramisu, Peaches
Left to right: Cloudberry, Pumpkin, Pine Tree, Petrol, Pug, Danger
Left to right: Strawberry Sweets, Festive Flame, Copper Coin, Mug Cake, Rosewood, Nightmare (which for whatever reason does not appear as black, even though it is)
As for the highlighting palette, it’s a gorgeous combination of 5 baked and 3 cream to powder shades. I’m not going to lie, the palette is out there. These are not subtle highlighters, but sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone. At the moment I like to use the first two as highlighters, whilst the others I use as eyeshadows.
Overall, I must say that I am very pleased with this collaboration. I recently saw that Soph released another palette in with Makeup Revolution, called Extra Spice. Again, the reviews have been spectacular, but I am not that sure about the bright eyeshadows. Anyway, until I make a final decision, I`ll continue playing with these two gems.
