This is the first day of Blogmas and I thought it would be really nice if I started with the reasons why I love Christmas so much in the first place. I won`t lie, my enthusiasm diminished a bit over the years, because I`m working and I`m away from my family. I mean, I still have my husband, sister-in-law, my niece and 2 cousins with me so it`s not that bad, but my parents and best friends are back home in Romania. Also, I get a day off only on 25th of December, but still, I love this holiday! Did it turn into something commercial and superficial? Yes, but buying pretty stuff only makes me love it even more. So here`s a list of the things that make me love Christmas so much:
1. Decorating the Christmas Tree
Isn`t this the best part, honestly? When I was little we used to decorate the tree on 15th of December and leave it until 21st of January, after my birthday. So my family used to leave presents under the tree 2 times a year, once for Christmas and once for my birthday. And back home we have some gorgeous vintage baubles, around 80-90 years old, the prettiest things I`ve ever seen. Here we use cheap ones from Poundland, but I always said that when we get our own place I`ll buy a set of gorgeous baubles from Selfridges and keep them for my kids.
2. Tacky Christmas Jumpers
I know, shame on me, but I just love ugly Christmas jumpers. Give me the cheesiest and loudest jumper and I`ll be a happy girl. There are so many fashion rules to follow and you always want to look perfect, so Christmas is like a holiday from that pressure. You`re allowed to look silly!
3. Christmas Markets
Whether you live in a small town or a metropolis like London, there`s always a Christmas market where you`ll find cute decorations, mulled wine and lots of sweets. It`s a great way to spend a day off, you can take your family or friends and be merry together.
4. Christmas decorations
I`m not talking about home decorations here though those are welcomed and encouraged. Here I`m proclaiming my love for shop window displays and all the cute decorations they hang. Selfridges is by far my favourite, their Christmas windows are a work of art.
5. Christmas advent commercials
I get so excited each year when they release new ones. This year Sainsbury`s smashed it, the little clip with Mog was so funny and heart-warming, when all the neighbors gather around to help. While they spent a fortune, I think the John Lewis commercial was extremely depressing and I did not really enjoy it. Aren`t these supposed to be fun? Aldi did a little spoof, though, theirs was better and more entertaining.
6. Christmas movies
Is there a better way to spend your evenings than to sit in bed with a big cup of hot chocolate and watch Home Alone? I think not. There`s a Christmas movie for everyone, from dramas to animation, you just have to find your genre. I`ll actually write a post tomorrow, with my top 10 picks.
7. Christmas songs
Most of the time I don`t listen to very happy songs, I`m more of an indie/ alternative rock kind of girl. Shocker, I know! Anyway, December is the month when my iPod gets its groove back, with Wham!, Mariah Carey and Shakin`Stevens.
This list could go on forever, but these are basically the main reasons why I am a crazy Christmas lady. But enough about me, let me know in the comments what do you love about Christmas and what things made you happy lately. Or be a Grinch and feel free to rant, I won`t mind that either.
