A few days ago when I did my October Beauty Favourites post I included my first high-end foundation, the Studio Sculpt from Mac. I did not say a lot about it because I wanted to make a full review, but if it was in a favourites post, you know it was good. As a person on a budget and addicted to drugstore makeup, it took me a while to invest in a high-end foundation, but as they say, better late than never. Don`t get me wrong, I still love my Rimmel and Bourjois foundations, but there`s something different about applying a high-end foundation. I work a lot for my money, so if I want to invest in the things I put on my skin, I should not feel bad for doing that!
There were quite a few high-end foundations on my list, like Nars Sheer Glow or Dior Star, but when I went to Mac to buy the lipstick for my giveaway, I thought I might as well try a Mac foundation, as so many people rave about them. Now, on Youtube I saw so many videos about crap customer service, I was a bit scared. But the lady that served me was absolutely lovely. We had a chat about my skin, she tested different textures and colours and in the end, I got Studio Sculpt in NW 15, a medium to full coverage foundation. After I picked this she also applied concealer, bronzer, powder and other things to make me look good, so that was very nice of her. And also she was not pushy, she told me what she used and wrote them in my profile, if later I decide to get them.
There were so many shades to choose from and this one matches my skin tone perfectly, so I`m very happy about it. Also, I had no idea warmer tones look better on me, so that`s a useful tip. Being a medium to full coverage foundation the consistency is very thick and it`s better to apply a tiny bit and work your way from there. Most of the foundations I have are quite liquid and I apply them with a Buffing Brush from Real Techniques. On this, however, the brush leaves a cakey finish. So I tried applying it with an RT sponge and it gave me the most flawless dewy finish. Most foundations I have are light to medium coverage and this is the opposite, so it took me a while to find a balance. The coverage you get in insane, so I only use a pea size amount, which is enough to cover my whole face. I won`t lie, after 6 hours it can get a bit cakey on my forehead, so when I know I have to be out for a long time, I use just a bit and don`t powder either.
When I started using it I got a small breakout, but to be honest I don`t know if it was the foundation or just my hormone (
special time of the month). I don`t want to risk it again, so now I don`t use it more than 2-3 days in a row and so far there were no reactions. With my sensitive skin, I guess that used too much all full coverage foundations will give me breakouts, so I have to be careful.
Compared to other high-end foundations at 25.50£ it`s quite reasonable and you only need a small amount, so the 40 ml tube will last you for a very long time. I am very happy with it and I can see why so many people love Mac foundations, they`re really really good. I`m also very curious about Studio Fix and the Face and Body one, but for now, this will do. Let me know in the comments if you tried it and if you have a Holy Grail Foundation I should try.
