June Favourites

Monday I shared with you my monthly beauty favourites, but I`m also a bookworm, a TV junkie, songaholic, so those things need their own spotlight as well. So from now on, a day after my monthly beauty favourites, I`ll also do a random one including all things lifestyle. I`m always excited when I discover that we watch the same movies or like the same songs, it`s the little stuff that we bond over.

TV Shows:

It`s no secret I`m a TV/Netflix junkie, I think I know some characters better than I know some of my favourite family members. I don`t have a specific genre, I watch everything from teen shows to crime shows and documentaries. This month, however, I`ve been loving a lot the following:

  • Game of Thrones

Oh God, where do I begin without giving away any spoilers?Hard one. I`ll state the following, though: George R.R. Martin is a troll that likes to mess with his fans. I mean, you watch the show, you find your favourite character, 5 episodes later he`s dead, you find another one and the same thing happens again. Now, while the show changed some things, they follow the main plot line in which everybody dies, so for that, the blame is on Martin.

I really enjoyed this season, everyone`s acting skills were amazing. Maisie did an amazing job portraying Arya`s journey, Lena was great, but the one I enjoyed most was Sophie Turner. Honestly, I find Sansa so annoying, but her story this season was so good and her development felt so real. Because I don`t want to spoil anything, I`ll stop here, but bottom line: GoT was amazing as usual. I also recommend reading the books, it might make the waiting better. Plus, there are so many more amazing characters in the books, like Lady Stoneheart.

  • Orange is the New Black

Binge- watched it in a day and a half, that`s what happens when Netflix uploads an entire season. I did enjoy it, but I don`t think it was as good as the other seasons. Maybe it`s because I don`t like Piper, but making her a badass did not convince me. She and Alex are repetitive and it just gets to a point where you know what will happen. Just like in GoT where you know everyone will die eventually, here you know they will get together, one will do something stupid, break up and then get back together again. I did enjoy the part with closing the prison and the story that follows, it`s a nice glimpse of a rotten system. I also liked Red`s  and Norma`s stories, might be in the minority, but I found them delightful.

  • Grace and Frankie

A very recent discovery, one that made me crack up the first season. Basically, two rivals well into their grandma age, find out that their husbands want to run away with each other. Seriously, how hilarious does this sound? Jane Fonda and Martin Sheen are 2 of the main protagonists and their acting is impeccable, but the other two are just as good.

The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman – Denis Theriault

Bilodo is a lonely postman, that found a secret happiness in reading the letters he needs to deliver, steam opening them and posting them the next day. He comes across a poetry exchange in the form of haikus between a local man and a woman from Guadeloupe. Without knowing her, he falls in love with her sensibility and poetry and when the man dies in a car accident, he decides to assume his identity. It`s a story about loneliness in modern times, but also about fate and love.

Theriault was compared with Murakami and Barnes and I can see some similarities, especially with Murakami. It`s quite a short book, you can finish it in a day, which you`ll probably do because the story is so captivating.

I saw this on Sunday, I had a really crappy day at work and this instantly cheered me up. Everyone asked me if it`s as good as Despicable Me and while the answer is no, I still found it very funny. The thing is, in Despicable Me a lot of the humour consisted of witty and funny lines while in Minions there are more funny situations. There are some hilarious moments in there and a few ones are directed at British culture, so I really enjoyed that.

Favourite Place:

Mango Caffe in Romford:

I live in East London and while I won`t give you the exact address, I am close to areas like Romford, Ilford and Hainault. My husband works in Romford and whenever I have a day off, I visit him on his lunch break. After that, I like to go to Mango and just write or read. It`s very small, they have only 5-6 tables, but I prefer smaller places, they feel more intimate. They have an amazing selection of products, the waffles and Vanilla Bean Frappe being my favourite.

Intimate places are a lot better than the very crowded ones.

I agree with what you said about OITNB, this season wasn't as great as the last one! The ending was cute but it wasn't as satisfying as the end of season 2 with Rosa/Vee etc! xx JOKSIE // WEAREMONOCHROME – Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle blog
