Yup, this is my first negative review on this blog, 2015 sure brought changes. Normally I write reviews only for the products I like, I feel that there`s enough negativity out there without me complaining about a stupid foundation, but, this time, I had to do it. The reason why I decided to make this post is that these pencils are big beauty cult products and everyone raves about them, but after using them I wonder how much is PR and how much it`s the truth. As I`ll state in my review, it`s not a bad product per se, but in my humble opinion, the high price does not match the quality entirely.
So about 2 months ago, I got this pencil in my Harvey Nichols for Glossybox parcel. This and the Laura Mercier primer were the 2 products that made me but the box, both being something I wanted to try for a long time. Even though I got a sample, it`s quite big, just a bit smaller than the usual Nars lip pencils. The shade, Rikugien, is right up my alley, a fantastic peachy nude colour. It look really natural when you apply and has a subtle sheen in it, but not over the top.
I remember I tried it as soon as I got my box and absolutely loved it. However, I was at home and I removed it straight away, I don`t really like to have makeup on when I`m in my PJs. The next day I decided to give it a proper use on a work day. Again, very lovely colour and incredibly easy to apply. It`s very creamy and just glides on your lips, without exposing any dry patches.
Everything sounds amazing so far, so why I am complaining then? Well, my big issue with this product is the staying power. I understand it has a creamy texture and those don`t last that much, but that is not an excuse. I had to reapply it after 2 hours and I didn`t even eat in that time. Quite ridiculous, if you think that even a lipstick from MUA will last longer. As I said, I like the colour and the formula, but they don`t justify the price if I have to reapply it 3-4 times a day. I don`t know, maybe it`s just this one shade, I know the formula varies from one to other. Or maybe it`s just an overpriced lip pencil and people like to use it just because it`s from Nars.
Have you tried any lip pencils from Nars before? What are your thoughts on them? I know the matte range seems to be more popular, do you think that it`s better?
