The other day I got tagged by the lovely writer of Blue Valentines for the Girl Power Tag. As a PROUD feminist, I was very happy to share my view on what a powerful woman means. So lets jump right in:
What does Girl Power mean to you?
Having the ability to pursuit your dreams despite of you gender, which is seen by a set back by lots of people. (You know the shit: women are to emotional to be in leading positions) I know we want to believe in fairy tales, but the truth is we still live in a sexist world. If you google Ceo`s or world leaders, 80% of them are men.
What is the best advice you can give to girls who want to be powerful?
Always be yourself and never compromise your beliefs. When you`re finally on top, you`ll feel a lot better knowing that you did everything with integrity. Oh, and be patient. Success comes in time, after lots of hard work.
If you could have any super power, what would it be and how would you use it?
I would like to control minds:)) I know it sounds creepy, but I would do a lot of good things. No more wars or injustice. And I would use it only from time to time, when countries are in trouble and leaders only make it worse.
Show us your best Girl Power (picture) pose:
(ok, not very powerful, but it was a big moment for me as I was the first of my family to finish Uni in top 3)
What beauty product makes you feel powerful?
I don`t need one. I mean, makeup is fun and I`m always a bit more confident when I look posh. BUT, a girl should be able to feel powerful even when she looks like crap. Brains over beauty!
Why is it important to have power girls as role models?
Until the 60`s we didn`t have many powerful women. (just watch Mad Men to have an idea of how it was) Even now the balance between genders is far from equal. Powerful women are seen as an exception, not a rule. But they should serve as a model for all of us, showing us that we can make it. And if more women find success then the balance will get better.
What young up and comer do you think is powerful and why?
Tough one. Ok, she`s not a comer, but she`s definitely a model. Jennifer Lawrence. I love her attitude and perception of Hollywood. She`s against the skinny trend and talks a lot about feeling good in your own skin. And she seems so real. I mean, she looks like a normal girl having fun and sometimes doing stupid things, but not in the trashy Miley way.
