If 'pushing the heart' is what they aimed for, for the most part Devics succeeded. It's hard to say too much of a bad word about the album as much of it does remain in similar territory, and this could potentially be a factor that may bore certain listeners. It's a well constructed album and impactful simply by nature; the subject material is massively relatable, while keeping things vague enough that allows for ones own interpretation.

Not all of Push The Heart is as tender or poignant, though Lie To Me is equally pensive and lovelorn, and the lyrics of Salty Seas are, if nothing, smartly poetic: The salty sea behind the ey. he falling leaf that never tries/To hold on to what keeps it alive. The Devics’ music is chamber pop at its most lush and dreamy-there aren’t even any signs of drums until track four, at which point the music not-quite-explodes into the kind of alt-rock that was popular when the pair first arrived on the music scene in the early ‘90s. Though Beam had clear ideas about how he wanted the album to proceed, he also welcomed and appreciated these gestures of spontaneity.

Album Push the Heart. I'm not saying that I felt like you cared I'm not saying that I want to go back. The salty seas behind the eye And it's the tears that come and make me cry The falling leaf that never tries To hold on to what keeps it alive. On their fourth full-length album, Devics don't stray far from their usual ethereal piano-plus-sampler, late-night vibe. Sara Lov again provides the majority of the vocals, her voice coming across as a. restrained blend of Hope Sandoval, Mary Timony, and Kristin Hersh while offering up tales of love, lies, and loss. Lov's instrument is certainly lulling, but not that distinctive, especially within the confines. With more variation, more separation in the mix, and a bit more conviction and. passion overall, Push the Heart would be easier to recommend. As it stands, it's just a slightly-better-. than-average indie chamber pop excursion.

It was released in March 2006 under Bella Union Records. Pictures, videos, biodata, and files relating to Push the Heart are also acceptable encyclopedic sources.
