The Rolling Stones is the debut album by the Rolling Stones, released by Decca Records in the UK on 16 April 1964. The album is included in Robert Dimery's 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
The Rolling Stones' final record of the Sixties kicks off with the terrifying "Gimme Shelter," the song that came to symbolize not only the catastrophe of the Stones' free show at Altamont but the death of the decade's utopian spirit. And the entire album burns with apocalyptic cohesion: the sex-mad desperation of "Live With Me"; the murderous blues of "Midnight Rambler"; Keith Richards' lethal, biting guitar on "Monkey Man"; the epic moralism, with honky-tonk piano and massed vocal chorus, of "You Can't Always Get What You. The Blue album, there's hardly a dishonest note in the vocals," Joni Mitchell told Rolling Stone in 1979. At that period of my life, I had no persona defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes.
Reason: Filming a Forgotten Movie. The Rolling Stones declined because Mick Jagger was in Australia that summer, filming a forgotten movie called 'Ned Kelly. You don't remember 'Ned Kelly'? It's the poorly received 1970 Tony Richardson-directed biopic of a 19th-century Australian bushranger. Also, Keith Richards' girlfriend Anita Pallenburg had just given birth to son Marlon that week in London. Reason: Silly Scheduling Issue.

and the new millennium that still sees them doing great live shows. The last official album was A Bigger Bang from 2005, and they've more or less stopped making new stuff since. The Beatles quit the concerts to concentrate on the studio. The Stones, being the live band they always were, quit the studio to concentrate on the concerts.
A fantastic album, it sees the Stones experimenting with as many different styles as possible while keeping consistent the whole way through. This album is just totally complete. I love all the albums, but none of them quite have the same sound as this one. Sure, you could call Between the Buttons psychedelic, but that record sounds very Beatlesque - not a bad thing, but it doesn't have the feeling that this one has, the depth.
Polydor/UMe 15 LP, 18 180gram disc box set (+WAV and MP3 download card). Produced by: Various (Project Coordinator David Beaufoy). When they'd finished in France, Mick flew to Los Angeles with the tapes to complete the overdubs at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. you have the best, but finally here's a reissue that does justice to that album.
