Soldier is the fourth studio album by American rock singer Iggy Pop. It was released in February 1980 by record label Arista. For the album Iggy collaborated with ex-Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock. Ex-member of The Stooges James Williamson was originally hired to produce the album, but a conflict between Williamson and David Bowie (who was assisting as a friend of Pop) over recording techniques led to Williamson walking out on the project.

While 1979's New Values showed Iggy growing as a lyricist with a number of tough but introspective songs, Soldier sounds goofy by comparison, featuring oddball throwaways like "Dog Food," "Get up and Get Out" (whose lyrics are mostly cribbed from old R&B tunes), and the political "satire" "I'm a Conservative.
Iggy Pop cashed in on his punk credentials here, building a backing band consisting of original Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, Patti Smith guitarist Ivan Kral, and Rich Kids guitarist Steve New. The band catch magic on Knocking ‘Em Down (In the City), where the dueling guitars create a bed of sound for Pop’s shouting to fall into. Underneath the acoustic guitar of Loco Mosquito is a fiercely strutting bassline, leaving no question that the punk icon could expand his taste without losing his cool.
Party is the fifth solo studio album by American rock singer Iggy Pop. It was released in June 1981 by record label Arista. For this record, Pop collaborated with Ivan Kral, who is best known as the guitar and bass player for Patti Smith in the 1970s. When Arista heard the album, they brought in former Monkees producer Tommy Boyce to remix "Bang Bang".
Of the album, Fricke wrote: "Soldier, like all of his albums, is a hard-fought battle in a war that Iggy Pop is determined to win. Call him Ig noble.
