November 29, 1926 - January 20, 1931. This three-CD set, which has all of Duke Ellington's recordings for the Brunswick and Vocalion labels, dwarfs all of the earlier reissues that Decca and MCA have put out of this important material

Duke Ellington recorded for Brunswick from 1926 to 1931, the period in which his great talent and great orchestra first flowered, whether the band was recording under his own name or such pseudonyms as the Washingtonians or the Jungle Band. Artists of stature are listened to, treasured and enjoyed and the joy of comparing songs recorded various times for various labels around the same time is not an excercise but a pleasure to savor such as with Duke.
