Sandrose biography A wonderful early French prog band, SANDROSE were formed in 1971 by guitarist Jean Piere ALARCEN. The other members of the band were Christian CLAIREFOND on bass, Michel JULLIEN on drums and Henri GARELLA who played organ and Mellotron. Vocals were supplied by powerful female vocalist Rose PODWOJNY singing with English lyrics. Let's notice some beautiful dialogues between the majestic guitar soli and the splendid keyboards sonorities into the progressive field. SANDROSE's debut and last was considered as one of the top 5 French progressive album.

Sandrose's sole album delivers a fresh orchestral and rock driven sound with female vocals. Despite the common sources, they are not copycats of other more notable progressive bands. There is a jazz influence and the vocals of Rose Podwojny have a French "Chanson" influence that is rare in rock music, especially on "To Take Him Away". There is also great interplay between the guitar of Jean-Pierre Alarcen and the organ and mellotron of Henri Garella. The Rhythm section is no slouch either and so the sound of the band is lush and energetic  . I heard about Sandrose from my cousin who is Swiss/French. She heard the band perform in France. She proceeded to tell me of the amazing jazz-progressive rock band that were not only great musicians but, somewhat unusual for the time, "around 1972", had an excellent female vocalist Rose Podwojny.
