Martin's album and it's his vision all the way. He even takes a very successful shot at frailing the banjo with the lovely and modal "Clawhammer Medley," the one non-original here. Everyone knows that Martin can be very funny, but The Crow isn't a joke. It's a first-class banjo album. One wonders if entering an archery tournament is next on this talented performer's agenda. Here's guessing Martin's probably pretty good at that, too.

The soundtrack to the movie The Crow was released in 1994. The album featured covers, including Nine Inch Nails who covered Joy Division's "Dead Souls", Pantera who covered Poison Idea's "The Badge", and Rollins Band who covered Suicide's "Ghost Rider", which is about a Marvel Comics character. Rage Against the Machine re-recorded their 1991 B-side "Darkness of Greed" and renamed it "Darkness" for this soundtrack. The Cure also wrote the song "Burn" for the movie.

n-till "If Neurosis is the collective consciousness bearing down on the listener with the weight of centuries, As The Crow Flies is a brief compendium of one man's private torments laid bare - a mere third-of-a-lifetime in the echo chamber of human history. As The Crow Flies was originally released in May of 2000, when the world was a very different place. The historically and mythologically loaded concept of flight - be it that of birds, planes or drones - didn't carry quite the psychic weight that it does today. At least not in the public arena.

In the 1970s, Martin performed his offbeat, absurdist comedy routines before packed houses on national tours. Since the 1980s, having branched away from stand-up comedy, he has become a successful actor, playwright, pianist, banjo player, and juggler, eventually earning Emmy, Grammy, and American Comedy awards.
