Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash is the sixteenth album in total by the singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, released on Columbia Records in 1963 (see 1963 in music). This album collects tracks from singles and an EP released between 1959 and 1963, Cash's first years on the Columbia label, and marked the first release of these tracks in LP format, with the exception of "I Still Miss Someone," which had previously appeared on the 1958 album The Fabulous Johnny Cash.

Technically, Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash isn't a greatest-hits collection, but it does contain a number of his greatest performances and singles, including "Ring of Fire," "I Still Miss Someone," and "The Rebel - Johnny Yuma. These are supported by solid originals ("Forty Shades of Green," "I'd Still Be There," "Tennessee Flat-Top Box") and covers (" Peace in the Valley," "Bonanza"), which help make the record one of Cash's best.

The Rebel–Johnny Yuma is a TV Western series theme performed by Cash with the same haunted gravitas he brought to his own compositions. Digging deeper, the album includes lesser known but still worthy tracks like the stirring Remember the Alamo, the jaunty What Do I Care, and the nostalgic, unexpectedly Irish-themed Forty Shades of Green. Cash’s deep religious faith finds expression on Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord?) and (There’ll Be) Peace in the Valley (For Me), the latter featuring The Carter Family. The 1963 set Ring of Fire is a 12-track collection that overlooks some chart singles in favor of worthwhile B-sides and TV soundtrack cuts. The Man in Black was stretching out creatively in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, dabbling in film acting while testing out various combinations of mainstream country, primal rock, and folk balladry.

Ring of Fire was the first album when Billboard debuted their Country Album Chart on January 11, 1964. It was certified Gold on February 11, 1965, earning him his first Gold LP. It stands as the only Columbia "greatest hits" collection to be included in the Johnny Cash: The Complete Columbia Album Collection box set. Technically, Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash isn't a greatest-hits collection, but it does contain a number of his greatest performances and singles, including "Ring of Fire," "I Still Miss Someone," and "The Rebel – Johnny Yuma.
