Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet is an album recorded in 1956 by Miles Davis. Two sessions on May 11, 1956 and October 26 in the same year resulted in four albums-this one, Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet and Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. Track 2 is a composition written for Davis by Eddie Vinson (see Blue Haze for more details).

Davis, as well as Coltrane, actually contributes compositions as well as mesmerizing performances to the album. One needs listen no further than the stream of solos from Davis, Coltrane, Garland, and Jones, with Paul Chambers chasing along with his rhythmic metronome. Beneath the smoldering bop of "Trane's Blues" are some challenging chord progressions that are tossed from musician to musician with deceptive ease

Miles Davis Quintet (PRLP 185) is a 10 inch LP album by Miles Davis, released in 1954 by Prestige Records. The album title is not to be confused with either of Davis' later Great Quintets. The three tracks on this LP, and one other, were recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey, on April 3, 1954. This was the first session for Prestige Davis recorded at Gelder's home studio, as he would all his remaining sessions for the label.

By that point Parker replaced Heroin with alcohol and was gulping vodka like it was soda pop, making him less than a productive partner on that date. The session was aborted at some point and Miles had to complete that session three years later with a different group. In Ira Gitler’s sleeve notes to Relaxin’ with the Miles Davis Quintet he noted that this made the performances a bit more personal and you are thereish. At the end of the band’s take on Woody’n You, the tune Dizzy Gillespie’s wrote for Woody Herman, you can hear this exchange: Miles: OK? Weinstock (joking): Do that one over.

Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet is an album by Miles Davis, recorded in 1956 but not released until 1961 as PRLP 7200.
