Jeff Mills – Proxima Centauri.

Sons of Alpha Centauri (also known as Demo 2004) is the eponymous demo album by English instrumental rock band Sons of Alpha Centauri. Published on 11 November 2004, only 13 copies of the album were released in a hand-crafted slipcase. The album's artwork was designed by Seldon Hunt. Sons of Alpha Centauri recorded two tracks for the demo in October 2004, stating that they were recorded on 10 microphones and then bounced down to a stereo mix via MiniDisc

Studio album by Tangerine Dream. The other difference is that this album focuses on dark, spacey soundscapes as opposed to jam sessions. The shift in instrumentation resulted in an atmosphere dubbed by Edgar Froese himself as "kosmische musik".

Alpha Centauri (album). Alpha Centauri is the second album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream, released in March 1971 by record label Ohr. Contents.

"Man is an artifact designed for space travel. He is not designed to remain in his present biologic state any more than a tadpole is designed to remain a tadpole." --William S. Boroughs" As printed on artwork side.

All of the tracks on Alpha Centauri pull of the whole sci-fi forward thinking theme with a sense of real inspiration and creativity. There are little melodies, hooks, and changes to keep your interest. I wish I could say the same for the "Something In The Sky" project which leaves much to be desired in this department. The obvious winner on this release is the title track Alpha Centauri with its really sweet, memorable hook. It should be longer. 12 minutes would have been enough for me to zone but sadly I think its only about 5. As soon as the track starts you're thrown right into the hooky melody, kind of off putting but its built for jeff's 3 decks style. He doesnt have time to wait around through intros. I say this as someone who samples almost all of Jeff's output but does not blindly buy everything he has out (like some of the Mills nutters on this site), this is the best record I've ever heard from him. But dont take my word for it, at least check the Alpha Centauri track and if you don't like that then you probably wont like the rest of it.

As much as I like Jeff Mills' sound and the way he has matured his musical concepts over the years - this EP is another sign that the times when Mills records would break boundaries and totally surprise you when hearing them for the first time are over. Still, the sheer beauty and detailed perfection Mills again has put into the tracks of this recording makes it grow on me a little bit more every time I listen to it. Everything is in place. Mills music seems to have become some kind of serial art. Nowadays, it seems to me like a solar system with a number of theme planets silently rotating around themselves. As long as the wizard maintains such a high level of quality, I'm fine with travelling there from time to time to see what has changed.
