Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum was founded in 1979 by Max Pommer and Walter Heinz Bernstein. All musicians are members of the Gewandhausorchester The name refers to the Collegium Musicum which Georg Philipp Telemann founded in 1701 at the Leipzig University, and which Bach directed from 1729.

The performances are just fair; oboist Burkhard Glaetzner handles the difficult solo parts well, but the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig (in the two . Bach works) seems tense and doesn't catch the graceful quality of the music. The early CD-era sound is another problem; recorded in a church, it lends an unpleasant muddy edge to the strings. The album can still be recommended to fans of . Bach's second surviving son. Track Listing.
