Young Enough (the song and the album) will puncture your heart and then fill up a void you never knew existed. ben. ben They are back!!!! Dare I say that this album rivals there debut album. This record shows that they have grown as musicians and artists and kept everything that made them awesome in the first place. Freddie French-Pounce. On Young Enough, Charly Bliss walk this thin line gracefully. Opener Blown to Bits builds off a sharp buzz of synth as Hendricks’ voice grows increasingly Auto-Tuned, dropping references to Cole Porter musicals, Rilo Kiley, and reality television. The band recorded the breakneck Guppy twice, but on this album, which was made in considerably less time, they sound patient even when they’re chasing a gigantic chorus. Building off a simple guitar note, the record’s slow-burning title track is perhaps the band’s greatest accomplishment yet. The band converges around Fox’s guitar line, slowly assembling something that is-to steal their phrase- astronomically huge and joyful.

The follow-up to their 2017 debut album, Young Enough leaves behind some of the grungier corners of Guppy while doubling down on caffeinated alt-rock anthems. That's to say they don't abandon distortion and animated rock drums, but prominent synths and a more extroverted and aerodynamic front land a little closer to No Doubt than the Breeders while remaining on that continuum.

Young Enough’, the second outing from New York alt-pop band Charly Bliss, is far too nuanced an affair to sit comfortably in either camp. It is a huge leap forward from the group’s fizzing debut ‘Guppy’, but it also misplaces many of the things that people came to love about them. Where that record was exuberant to the point of excitement puking, its successor is more studied and happy to play things close to its chest. Its magic is found in repeat listens as its melodies tighten their grip  . The album’s finest moments are distinctly mannered and reliant on Hendricks’ expressive vocal performance to make their point-dialling back the guitars is actually something of a masterstroke.

Young Enough is the second studio album of Brooklyn power pop group Charly Bliss, consisting of Eva Hendricks (vocals, guitar), Spencer Fox (vocals, guitar), Sam Hendricks (drums), and Dan Shure (vocals, bass). Young Enough is a more pop-focused album than its predecessor, and was inspired by Lorde's album Melodrama, as well as the music of the Cars and Carly Rae Jepsen

There's true craft, pure propulsive skill here, but fuck that, right" I'll get to that. It's secondary for me, and always has been

Charly Bliss have today debuted their sophomore album, Young Enough. Stream the entire thing below via Apple Music or this site. The follow-up to 2017’s Guppy, Young Enough was recorded with producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes). Entering the studio after releasing their breakout debut, the New York power pop act were determined not to repeat their sound. Frontwoman Eva Hendricks used the album to work through her personal traumas, like the sexual assault she confronts on Chatroom or the struggle to break with such an abusive relationship on Hard to Believe. The record’s lead single, Capacity, finds her fighting for self-reclamation, emancipating herself from the BS of other people and her own damaging internal dialogue. Feels like a step down in intensity and originality from their previous LP, "Guppy", a bubblegrunge barnstormer of teenage lyrical pantomime and hormonal angst. "Young Enough" is, by comparison, an undeniably well-crafted pop rock album, but without the rootsy dynamic scuzz of its predecessor; a touch too electronic - a touch less fun in the tongue. A Blisster 'til I die (naturally); I just hope their trajectory isn't locked on this lighter sound...
