Blue Moods is the second 12" album by Miles Davis, released on Charles Mingus' Debut Records label in late 1955. It brings Miles Davis on trumpet together with Charles Mingus on bass, trombonist Britt Woodman, vibraphonist Teddy Charles, and drummer Elvin Jones. The arrangement of "Alone Together" is by Charles Mingus, while the other tracks were arranged by Teddy Charles.
Bethlehem's 192/24 remaster of Miles Davis: Blue Moods opens a window on the session and an opportunity to wipe clean the grimy accretions of received critical judgment. The instrumentation is unusual-nearly unique in Miles' and Mingus' catalogs-and the performances are better than they have been characterized. The session was one of the last documents of an approach to writing and arranging that had preoccupied Mingus for more than a decade.

Bassist Charles Mingus lends a hand on "Smooch" and "Easy Living," while pianist Horace Silver chimes in on "You Don't Know What Love I. There are fabulous takes of "'Round Midnight," originally recorded for Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants, and the peaceful, melancholy closer, "When I Fall in Love. Davis' refined trumpet style, with its full-bodied notes and use of quiet spaces, has reached an early peak here.
