Strangely, this latest Steve Vai album is nothing of the sort. Perhaps more tellingly, one album was made in his early twenties, the next as he was approaching thirty. The concept, as much as it can be picked apart, details the journey of a man driven mad by grief. Well, you have to start somewhere. It’s pretty much a blank canvas for Vai though and, oddly, one of his most cohesive albums, at points it’s very nearly straightforward.
