Björk is the only studio album by Icelandic singer Björk Guðmundsdóttir as a child singer, released on 18 December 1977 by Fálkinn. In 1976, Björk appeared on Icelandic radio singing "I Love to Love" through the music school she attended, which led her to a record deal and the release, with the help of stepfather Sævar, of her first solo album in 1977.

At the moment, the conversation concerns her new album, Utopia. And, like I said, it’s quite hard. Anyhow, Björk has been making Utopia since she finished her last tour. It started, she says, like many of her albums: as both a reaction against her previous album, and a following-on from it. Released in 2015, Vulnicura was bleak. It dived into the misery of her break-up with artist Matthew Barney, her long-term partner and father of her daughter, Isadora.
We like to talk about artists’ contradictory impulses, but with Björk, it’s more apt to talk about unities. In a career that’s nearing its fourth decade, she’s coupled many of the major dualities: intellect and body, auditory and visual, nature and technology. A map of her stylistic forays reads like a condensation of Rip It Up And Start Again: a very early folk start, then stints in post- and anarcho-punk outfits, followed by a series of idiosyncratic dance broadsides pasted onto pop’s center pole.
In characteristically elusive fashion, Björk surprised fans today (Aug. 2) with the announcement that her new album is "coming out very soon.
An album we waited increasingly less patiently for last year landed like a Cali summer storm in January 2017. Kehlani pushed through a lot of personal shit and pigeonholing to produce a self-assured stunner with SWEETSEXYSAVAGE. The album title is a reference to TLC’s seminal Crazysexycool, and the record oozes with elements of Aaliyah, Missy, and Brandy. After the saddest album of her career, Björk rebounded. Rather than continue swimming through the heartbreak that drenched 2015’s Vulnicura, she instead sought out new life from the ruins of her relationship with her longtime partner and the father of her child. Flower Boy is Tyler, the Creator’s fourth album and his best by some distance, a body of work that showcases all of his influences without being erratic, a record that oozes sincerity and warmth without ever threatening to becoming boring.
Björk closed out her first decade as a solo artist with the retrospective Björk's Greatest Hits. Despite its somewhat pedestrian title and approach (especially considering some of her intricate import collections and box sets) she still managed to find a way to put a twist on the collection: she let her fans vote for which songs they wanted included on the track listing.
Björk taps into her ancestral headbanging on this aborted single from Medulla, an album contructed solely from the human voice. The guttural beatboxing of Rahzel is chopped and layered into something that gets our devil horns in the air every time. The Sugarcubes, 1988 A Björk list without the Sugarcubes would be remiss. So many of us first encountered the singer as a mesmerizing, jumping youth, seemingly a child but already a mother, on MTV in videos for college rock hits like, well, "Hit. But "Deus" was their pinnacle, a song of optimistic atheism that oozes love and maintains a sense of wonder. I once wrote that the Sugarcubes would have been much better without Einar Örn. He e-mailed to say, "You are so right!"
