Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200.

Storytone arrived at the end of a year that already saw another new Neil Young album - that would be A Letter Home, a collection of folk covers recorded at Jack White's Voice-O-Graph direct-to-vinyl recording booth at Third Man Records - which itself was only the tip of the iceberg that was Neil's 2014. That spring, Young launched a high-end digital audio system called Pono, which was followed by the summer news that he was divorcing Pegi, his wife of 36 years, an event that led to a fresh feud with David Crosby that then led to Young saying he would never play with CSN again and,.

NEIL YOUNG STORYTONE AN ALBUM OF RARE BEAUTY The New Deluxe Double Release With 10 Brand New Compositions, Some With A 92-Piece Orchestra, Choir And Young, Some With A 60-Piece Orchestra, And Three With A Big Band. Also Includes An Additional Studio Album Of Solo Versions Of All The Songs".

11/4/2014 by Phil Gallo. 0. Few singers play vulnerability better than Neil Young. It's the most affecting trait of this collection of a dozen songs, presented in two separate versions: one set gussied up in formal wear, and the other kicking back in shorts and T-shirts on the back porch.

Neil Young’s new orchestral album comes in a deluxe version that includes stripped-down takes of the songs – and those are the ones to hear, writes Maddy Costa. Neil Young’s fifth album in as many years comes in a standard version that defies any expectation raised by that word. Its backing band is a full orchestra and choir, whose gooey strings and slangy swing make standard stuff like guitar solos surplus to requirement.

Neil Young's new album Storytone involves ten tracks recorded live in front of an orchestra. Despite the manic activity of Neil Young's 2014-which involves a tech startup, anti-oil advocacy, a book and panitings-the high concept of Storytone barely raises an eyebrow. Even for an artist with the mercurial track record of Neil Young, this has been a pretty strange year. Since turning 68 last November, Young has become a tech startup figurehead, an enemy of Canadian conservatives and oil companies, a second-time author, and a watercolor artist. He’s done a European tour with a modified.

Neil Young's second album of 2014 couldn't be any more different than the first. The stripped-down, all-covers collection 'A Letter Home' was recorded in a vintage vinyl recording booth at Jack White's Nashville studio; 'Storytone,' which includes 10 new songs written by Young, was made with assistance from a 92-piece orchestra, choir and big band. But they have one thing in common: a sense of intimacy you usually don't get when Young plugs in and rages gloriously with a rock band.
