Swervedriver are an English alternative rock band formed in Oxford in 1989 around core members Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge. Between 1989 and 1998, the band released four studio albums and numerous EPs and singles despite a considerable flux of members, managers, and record labels. By 1993 the band’s lineup had settled with Franklin on vocals/guitar, Hartridge on guitar, Jez Hindmarsh on drums, and Steve George on bass.

Swervedriver’s sophomore album, Mezcal Head, stands as a testament to the genre’s occasional bursts of hell-raising extroversion. Released in 1993, the record builds on the dynamism and forcefulness of 1991’s Raise; frontman Adam Franklin keeps all the velocity and volume, only he spikes things with even greater pop hooks and a more dexterous sense of songwriting. Duel flirts with the alt-rock bounce of Sugar even as it recalls the gargantuan riffage of Isn’t Anything-era My Bloody Valentine. Last Train to Satansville even sports a touch of surf

Mezcal Head is the second album released by the British alternative rock band Swervedriver released in 5 August 1993 under Creation Records in the United Kingdom and on A&M Records in the United States. In 1993, Swervedriver re-emerged with the core of Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge, along with newly recruited drummer Jez Hindmarsh (. Jez"), and released the album Mezcal Head

In 1993, Swervedriver created their masterpiece. Following their 1991 debut Raise – an album which loosely drew out a sound hazy and rough around the edges – with Mezcal Head, the Oxford four-piece seized on that sound and distilled it, creating a tight collection of songs which lurched with enough dirgy distortion to hook in fans of the exploding grunge scene, but remained lush and intricate enough to appeal to. the dreamers with their eyes locked squarely on their shoes.

Fantastic sounding pressing. I have the original Creation LP from 1993 and this one is far superior.

Pressing sounds great. Like the reviewer below, I only have the A&M CD from 1993 to compare it to, but both sound wonderful

Does Side 2 track B1 really say "Dragging It Under" versus the more limited edition/colored version which has "Harry & Maggie"? Same song but different titles. This is different from the original '93 vinyl release which has A4 "Mickey" and B1 "Dragging It Under".

You're right, both the label on side B and the back cover of the album list B1 as "Harry & Maggie". I've just submitted the change to this entry now.

I found this pressing to be very good. I can only compare to the original cd release and the remastered cd release, but the sound is detailed, well balanced and full. While MOV has a spotty reputation (I've only heard two of their pressings, one was excellent and the other was disappointing) I think they've done a fine job with this pressing. Swervedriver fans, purchase with confidence.
