Rhythm Shower is a studio album by The Upsetters, released in 1973. Originally released in a very limited Jamaican pressing with no sleeve, it became better known when re-released by the Trojan label as part of its originally 3 LP, later 2-CD set The Upsetter Collection, first issued in 1986. Many of the rhythms on the album are known as those done by Lee "Scratch" Perry.

Despite its obscurity, "Rhythm Shower" is a pivotal album in Perry's career as a producer and bandleader, it finds him beginning to experiment with dub and developing his singular studio sound that would come to full maturity in subsequent years. Whereas earlier albums offered plenty of instrumental versions, on "Rhythm Shower", Perry really begins employing the studio sleight of hand that would become part and parcel for what was then the emerging art form of dub - dropping voices and instruments in and out of the mix to create a trippy, hypnotic effect

Anybody having a copy of this ( or "so called"Jamaican copy made from the same, uk masters ?Methinks not! As simply as that !

The Sphinx of Driz
To all you Fellas who commented on this item and its pressing. Here I am just about to scoop me up a copy BUT like you fellas, sounding and the way the vinyl plays matters to me? Bumps on any vinyl isnt good? I certainly would be pissed if these bumps happen to do any kind of damages to my syllabus and or needle. I'm out!!! As much as I like the Uppsetters sound has everything to do with why I'm purchasing any vinyl record. I will say, it's so disappointing to finally get possession of a LP, and the sounding isnt even half of what the true sound should be. Thanks.

The original pressing of this LP sounds AMAZING. Lots of punch and crisp high ends. The repress in the "Upsetter 3 LP box" from 1985 is acceptable....They at least took it from an original pressing of the LP. But this "Get on down" repress sounds like absolute garbage. Like a 3rd or 4th generation recording. Completely flat and muffled. They've missed out on the whole point of why this LP was made. Lee Perry wanted to punch you in the gut, slap you in the face and drill a hole through your head straight to your brain.....music way ahead of it's time. Now this is going to just collect dust in the corners of record collectors shelves because it's lost all of it's impressiveness. And on top of all that all the copies I have also seen (6 of them) have bumps all over the surface and when the needle tracks over them it creates a loud bass thump....and the funny thing about that is that's the only bass to really be heard on the record because the bumps have a louder bass reproduction than Get on Down's mastering job. Truly pathetic. Shame on Get on Down

The Skatalites repress you speak of may sound worse than this Rhythm shower.

I wish! I just have the '85 pressing. And I believe you.

UpsetterShop You probably own the original. Put the record on, leave the room and close the door. Now when you are standing outside......that's what the repress sounds like. And every once in a while your downstairs neighbor decides to bang on the roof........ those are the bumps on the vinyl.

I would not be surprised if the bumps were intentional/by design, like the faux-antique label, trying to look more "vintage-Jamaican". But with that, why the publisher credits on the label instead of a more faithful replica? Look to the Studio One re-issue of "Ska Authentic", it's an exact replica of the original, with barcode & re-issue notes all on the obi sash. Much more classy IMO.

Just the same problem : Visually easy to be seen bubbles in vinyl, whisch can mean only one & Obvious thingand that is BAAAAAD PRESSING. As simple as that. Anybody home ar Get On Down ?There's money to be get on any thing with Lee Perry on, i do understand your point, butpress it decent, at least. OK ?

Skrimpak
Got two copies, both have visual pressing flaws, bubbles in the vinyl.

funike
It's not a "flaw" so much as a flawed attempt to be clever.

playboy
Mine has it too. Pressing plays through but still a bummer and has some over the top surface noise. Get On Down releases some great stuff but the pressing plants they use are not doing a good job.
