Dave Pell Does The Jazz Live San Diego Interview. Dave Pell sat down with Jazz Live San Diego host Vince Outlaw in the green room at the Saville Theater to chat about members of his current Octet, which led to some great stories of the many other Jazz legends who sat in this band over it's over 50 year span. First up, here's the audio of the interview, which aired on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, immediately after the concert.

The Dave Pell Octet was one of the definitive cool jazz groups of the 1950s. Tenor saxophonist Pell played with Les Brown's big band during 1948-56 and started to record with an octet drawn from the orchestra in 1953. His first project was a set of a dozen Irving Berlin tunes, and the results are quite memorable. The swinging and subtle ensembles, concise and emotionally restrained solos, and excellent musicianship would be trademarks of the band.
