Kenny Horst is a very versatile drummer/writer who happens to love jazz in all its forms. The writing on this album is all kenny and you can hear that it's hard to pin down exactly what that means. It sounds like Kenny doesn't like to be labeled so he plays all the moods and forms of jazz and funk that turn him on! The musicians that Kenny chose for this album continue the obvious trend of "keeping it diverse. Let's start with Billy Peterson on acoustic and electric bass

Goodbye Marie" was first recorded by Johnny Rodriguez on his March 1979 album, Rodriguez Was Here, and then later recorded by Bobby Goldsboro, charting as a single for him in 1981.

In the liner notes of Quiet Kenny, former Downbeat magazine publisher Jack Maher states that trumpeter Kenny Dorham's music is not necessarily the demure, balladic, rapturous jazz one might associate as romantic or tranquil. Cool and understated might be better watchwords for what the ultra-melodic Dorham achieves on this undeniably well crafted set of standards and originals that is close to containing his best work overall during a far too brief career.

HORST JANKOWSKI is a exotica music artist. Horst Jankowski was a seemingly inexhaustible composer of easy listening instrumental and space age pop who started out as a classical pianist. Comparisons are often noted between Jankowski and campy space age pop arranger and composer Juan Garcia Esquival, easy listening arranger and composer Bert Kaempfert, and easy listening arranger Ray Conniff.
