The main focus of They Call Us Monsters is a screenwriting workshop held inside Sylmar Juvenile Prison and managed by Gabriel Cowan, one of the producers of the film. Three kids in particular - Jarad, Juan and Antonio - collaborate on a script and also reflect on the crimes that put them behind bars. The film also looks at efforts in the California legislature to redraft laws for violent juvenile offenders to give them a chance at a life outside prison

We’re calling it Comic Con, but it’s probably more correct to call it an entertainment convention, Munegumi explains. In the past two to three years, there have been more ways to enjoy comics, and more films, too, he says. More bookstores carry Japanese versions of the comics and they sell well. Harley Quinn (from the film ‘Suicide Squad’) was a popular costume this past Halloween.
They Call Us Monsters is undeniably compelling, even if it can't offer a complete look at the widespread issues it faces. The material is there. But They Call Us Monsters nevertheless helps us better understand the eternal conundrum of family-loving teens who turn into violent threats. Even if you agree with the film's argument that teenagers shouldn't be locked up for life when there are other ways to save them, "Monsters" doesn't offer a convincing argument that a screenwriting class is that lifeline.
A Quiet Place' filmmaker goes deep into spoilers and explains the origins behind the monsters in the smash hit horror film, their backstory, what they are, and where they came from. One of the many brilliant aspects of filmmaker John Krasinski’s smash hit horror thriller A Quiet Place is its economy of storytelling. There is zero fat on the film. There’s no needless exposition, no prologue explaining what happened to Earth or how the monsters got there. The film begins on Day 89, in the aftermath of when they first arrived, and viewers are dropped into the middle of a story that’s already ongoing
