The Vinyl of the Day is ‘Saturday Night Live’, a compilation album of SNL skits starring the Not Ready For Prime Time Players, 1976. photos and video of comedians and actors that are no longer with us, such as John Belushi, John Candy, Gene Wilder, Harold Ramis, Madeline Kahn and Garry Shandling, and some that are still making us laugh such as Martin Short, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Eugene Levy, Steve Martin and Jane Curtin, among others. I watched a lot of Saturday Night Live (with the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players ), and Gilda Radner was an absolute hero to me. Watching I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show is what made me a lifelong fan of Lucille Ball, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show made me want to be like Rhoda Morgenstern (played by Valerie Harper).

SEEBill Murray movies: 15 greatest films ranked from worst to best. Aykroyd and Belushi became especially close friends during the series run and began working in films together such as Neighbors, The Blues Brothers and potentially Ghostbusters, but Belushi’s overdose at the age of 33 caused Bill Murray to have to assume the fabled role
Saturday Night Live is an American sketch comedy series created and produced by Lorne Michaels for most of the show's run. The show has aired on NBC since 1975. Saturday Night Live was not an immediate success. While at first, creator Lorne Michaels commanded a more traditional variety show with an emphasis on musical performances, the show soon developed its own identity with help from the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players". After an unstable first season, more and more sketch comedy got on the air, and SNL became something of a New York institution. The first cast members hired were Second City alumni Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, National Lampoon "Lemmings" alumnus Chevy Chase (whose trademark became his usual falls and opening spiel that cued the show's opening), Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Garrett Morris and George Coe.
After that, Aykroyd was an original Not Ready for Prime-Time Player on NBC's Saturday Night Live, alongside Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, and Aykroyd's best friend from Second City, John Belushi. On Saturday Night Live, Aykroyd did impressions of Richard M. Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Julia Child. He was the patriarch of The Coneheads, and a wild and crazy guy alongside Steve Martin. But Aykroyd is best remembered from SNL as Elwood Blues. Aykroyd always sincerely loved the blues.
