Walking on the Moon is track six on 1979’s Reggatta de Blanc and is the second single for the group in the UK. It reached in Australia and did not place in the US charts. One of the more heavily reggae-influenced tracks, Sting sings about the weightlessness one feels after they fall in love. Sting, principal songwriter and lead singer of The Police discusses the origins of the song: I was drunk in a hotel room in Munich, slumped on the bed with the whirling pit when this riff came into my head.

Walking on the Moon" is a song by English reggae rock band The Police, released as the second single from their second studio album, Reggatta de Blanc (1979). The song was written by the band's lead vocalist and bassist Sting. It went on to become the band's second No. 1 hit in the UK. Sting said that he wrote the song when he was drunk one night after a concert in Munich. That following morning, he remembered the song and wrote it down.

Walking On The Moon". Giant steps are what you take Walking on the moon I hope my legs don't break Walking on the moon We could walk forever Walking on the moon We could live together Walking on, walking on the moon. Walking back from your house Walking on the moon Walking back from your house Walking on the moon Feet they hardly touch the ground Walking on the moon My feet don't hardly make no sound Walking on, walking on the moon. album: "Reggatta de Blanc" (1979). Police drummer Stewart Copeland used a Roland RE-201 Space Echo unit on this track, which allowed him to create another track of delay that accentuates the moon theme. He did it live, triggering the unit with a foot pedal and listening to the delay as he played. He got the idea from reggae dub music an echo. In America, it was a slower climb: "Message in a Bottle" stalled at and "Walking On The Moon" failed to chart. Their third album, Zenyatta Mondatta, was their US breakthrough. Acknowledging the reggae roots of this song, Sting performed it at the 2013 Grammy Awards in a tribute to Bob Marley that also included Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Damian Marley and Ziggy Marley.
