New Album Pretty Years Out Now via Sinderlyn Records.
Every Cymbals Eat Guitars album has been dense, but none have covered as much ground as effectively as Pretty Years. CEG's newest album, "Pretty Years", is a sharp veer from their last LP-"LOSE". From the blaring horns to the dancey rhythms, Joe and co. experiment with different sounds and styles. Fortunately for us, they pull it off while still remaining true to their identity.
Lose (Cymbals Eat Guitars album). Redirected from LOSE (Cymbals Eat Guitars album)). LOSE is the third studio album by the American indie rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars, released by Tough Love Records on August 25, 2014 in the UK and by Barsuk Records on August 26, 2014 in the . All lyrics written by Joseph D'Agostino; all music composed by Cymbals Eat Guitars.
The simple back story to Cymbals Eat Guitars’ third album, LOSE, is Joseph D’Agostino’s confrontation with the death of his best friend and musical collaborator, Benjamin High, seven years ago. The burn of this loss has smouldered as mere embers beneath the band’s previous two albums, an undercurrent more than the main propulsion, and it would seem rather belated, then, to have High’s death fume to the fore after this long and a pair of albums. Now 25, it’s not just the loss of High, it’s the loss of everything D’Agostino knew when High was alive, things he and all young adults in their early 20s can operate on, even if off of fumes. LOSE is the loss of carefreeness, of having honest to God leisure time, of spending your money on theme parks and music and gas for simply driving around all night listening to said music on your shit car CD player.

Cymbals Eat Guitars have announced their fourth studio LP, Pretty Years. It's out September 16 via Sinderlyn, and was produced by Grammy-winning producer John Congleton. Listen to the first single from the album, "Wish," below. The Staten Island band's last record, LOSE, was released in 2014. We wanted to make a more energetic record," bassist Matthew Whipple said of the new record.
Cymbals Eat Guitars took the latter route on 2011's somewhat overlooked Lenses Alien, which had a noticeably denser (and frankly, druggier) sound and a newfound focus on lyrics. On the Long Island via New Jersey group's third and best album, LOSE, we hear the sound of a band that's finally come into it's own, crafting hard hitting rock tunes that pack an emotional punch without losing the hazy beauty of Lenses. Perhaps the most striking thing about LOSE is the honesty found in the record's lyrics. If this album has a mission statement, it's probably "Laramie". Here, we find Joseph D'Augustino stuck in a snowstorm in a car with his friend Ben High, who we know is doomed to die. It's the kind of memory that characterizes any close relationship, but one that takes on special resonance after the person we love is gone.
