Rory Gallagher is the first solo album by Irish blues rock musician Rory Gallagher, released in 1971. It marked his departure from Taste. He decided on two Belfast musicians; drummer Wilgar Campbell, and bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy to be the core of his new power trio band.
Rory toured with Rush both as an opener and headliner back in 1974 and 1982 respectively, and Alex Lifeson of Rush was interviewed by MusicVaultz. com on Rory's guitar playing, infl Cork Rocks For Rory - Saturday June 8th!! In this respect Gallagher was an early model for Eric Clapton, whose solo career followed a similar path. Interestingly, Gallagher seems rather restrained throughout his debut, holding back the fret-burning in favor of strong songs. He opens up on the album's jazzy, seven-minute finale "Can't Believe It's You" which even features an alto sax, an instrument Gallagher all but abandoned on later albums.
BBC Sessions is a blues rock album by Rory Gallagher, released in 1999. The album was compiled from live recordings made at the BBC by Gallagher's brother Donal, and released posthumously. It was for Peel that Gallagher recorded the songs in this collection. To an artist who opposed releasing singles, the sessions collected here on this compilation proved invaluable in allowing his music to reach new fans Track listing. A guide to the blues-rock guitarist's best recordings. Irish-born guitarist Rory Gallagher first came to our attention as the frontman of the power trio Taste, a well-regarded band that rode the second wave of the 1960s-era British blues-rock boom to a modicum of success and fame. Gallagher launched his solo career with a self-titled 1971 album and immediately hit the road, touring almost constantly until his death in 1995. Along the way, he recorded better than a dozen studio, and a handful of live albums that showcased his incendiary playing style and underrated songwriting skills
