Usually during a rap album, the rapper takes a break from talking about himself to talking about ladies. It usually is when the quality of the album drops and the slower tracks start to get boring. J. Cole follows suit, however, the quality of these tracks are on par with everything else on the mixtape. In the Morning" puts Drake in his best ground, talking about females. Cole delivers as well to make a good song about a pretty simple topic. However, the one ok song on this album happens to be about a lady. The album ends with "Farewell", a song talking about whether or not he will be remembered if he is gone, and telling haters that he'll be gone soon. A 5 star quality song for a . star quality mixtape.
Friday Night Lights serves as J. Cole’s third official mixtape and was released to help hold over fans until his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story released. The title of the project is a reference to the movie with the same name, which premiered in 2004 and is about a high school team and coach from Texas and their rise and fall. On the great summer single "Who Dat", Cole came off tense and purposeful, as if he were trying to elbow his way onto radio playlists through sheer force of will. Friday Night Lights finds him in a more expansive mode, getting into the minutiae of his own personal story over exclusively midtempo beats.
I love Friday Night Lights. I love its beautiful, too-brief, fuzzy blanket of a theme song. I always respond to a spoken "clear eyes, full hearts. I even love Aimee Teegarden as Julie Taylor, the most widely-disliked character on a show that is defined by being profoundly likable, mostly because she is maybe the only teenage character on TV who looks and acts like a real teenager. Pilot Friday Night Lights' first episode is earnest perfection, introducing you to the Dillon Panthers at the start of the high school football season, the center of their town's world. Then it breaks your heart. Eyes Wide Open" and "Wind Sprints" Following up on the tragic end of the pilot are two great episodes about a broken town and team processing a tragedy, and sometimes doing it poorly.
The designer duo Formstelle has created an extension of the FRIDAY family that brings the coziness of upholstered furniture into the bedroom. The backrest swings in a gentle arc from the headboard down to the ground. Midway, the elegance of the shape changes – it makes an unforeseen bend and the graceful back becomes a solid foot of the bed. The whole back looks like one piece and despite its solidity, it radiates a casual rest.
