The mini-album Lost Wisdom represents an intersection of those two distinct sensibilities and their resulting voices: Elverum, his tone often hesitant and sorrowful; Doiron, her singing reassuringly direct and familiar. For Doiron, this is a chance to wrap her warm, homespun vocals around Elverum's words of uncertainty, bringing earthly color to songs which, under the Mount Eerie banner alone, might emerge cold and gray

Lost Wisdom is the second album by Mount Eerie, with Canadian musicians Julie Doiron and Frederick Squire. It was released 7 October 2008 on P. W. Elverum & Sun, less than a month before Elverum's next album, Dawn was released, which also features some songs from this album. The recording of the album was somewhat spontaneous. Doiron and Squire had a few days between a recent tour and an upcoming recording session in Olympia, Washington, and made a surprise visit to Phil Elverum in Anacortes.

I got close enough to the river that i couldn't hear the trucks But not close enough to stop the roaring of my mind These rocks don't care if i live or die Everyone i know will finally turn away I will confuse and disinterest all posterity Lost wisdom Is a quiet echo Lost wisdom By the edge of the stream. at dusk Is a quiet echo on loud wind
