The box set also comes with a 68-page booklet.
This is it: Everything the Police released," boasts the notes in the 66-page booklet included with this box set. Obsessive fans have already written to rock magazines indignantly pointing out the omission of this or that obscurity. And most of the B sides are excellent, too. You could almost make up a sixth album just by putting together the B-sides, along with the tracks that appeared the Brimstone And Treacle soundtrack. As mentioned earlier, The Police were an astoundingly consistent band, and anyone who wants to take the time to listen to this set will be warmly rewarded with lots of great musical treats.
Drummer Stewart Copeland’s ‘De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da’ B-side, ‘A Sermon’, is stuffed with sharp hooks that stand among the best of the group’s work . Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings is out on 16 November. Outlandos d’Amour (1978) ‘Next to You’ ‘So Lonely’ ‘Roxanne’ ‘Hole in My Life’ ‘Peanuts’ ‘Can’t Stand Losing You’ ‘Truth Hits Everybody’ ‘Born in the ’50s’ ‘Be My Girl – Sally’ ‘Masoko Tanga’. Reggatta de Blanc (1979) ‘Message in a Bottle’ ‘Reggatta de Blanc’ ‘It’s Alright for You’ ‘Bring on the Night’ ‘Deathwish’ ‘Walking on the Moon’ ‘On Any Other Day’ ‘The Bed’s Too Big Without You’ ‘Contact’ ‘Does Everyone Stare’ ‘No Time This Time’. The Police rarities bonus album, how come the track ‘Secret Journey. isn’t included on the ‘Ghost In The Machine. album? Also; have these albums undergone a fresh digital remastering (. giving a better sound than the now somewhat old ‘Message In A Bo. anthology)? I look forward to hearing from you shortly. Regards, Mr. Chris Rasdale.
Despite their legendary status, the Police only released five albums during their brief reign from 1978-1983. In addition, the trio had amassed a healthy amount of both studio and live B-sides, plus songs that only appeared on soundtracks. For the 1993 four-CD box set Message in a Box: The Complete Recordings, every single song the Police ever recorded is included. All the tracks were digitally remastered for the project, sounding superior to the original CD versions of the single albums
Although many Police fans consider 1983's 'Synchronicity' album to be the band's finest album, a significant number of others believe that it was 1981's 'Ghost In The Machine' that is the more satisfying. After three albums recorded in either the egg-box covered walls of Surrey Sound Studios or amidst the persistent rain of Holland, the band transported themselves to the idyllic surroundings of the Caribbean, and to Air Studios on the island of Montserrat . I think the material that came out on the next albums was stronger. It was something we all believed in. By our third album we realised it came too close in sound to the albums before it. The balance had been tipped too much toward commercialism. We'd become almost obsessed by it largely because the only group who was selling any records in Europe for a year or so was The Police. The band had a new producer, Hugh Padgham, and enhanced their sound with keyboards and overdubs as well as with Sting's saxophone playing
The music on this album is a mix of 2 live recordings. A live recording with my orchestra Band of Inner Urge, and a live sound recording from a cinema in Delhi showing some old Indian gangster movie. All together this is a new sound track of a gangster movie to be seen without a screen. The police beat box was standing just outside the cinema in Delhi. I don't know what it is used for. Please enjoy August Engkilde".
