Wild Beasts were an English indie rock band, formed in 2002 in Kendal. They released their first single, "Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants", on Bad Sneakers Records in November 2006, and subsequently signed to Domino Records. They have released five acclaimed albums, Limbo, Panto in 2008, Two Dancers in 2009, Smother in 2011, Present Tense in 2014 and Boy King in 2016. Two Dancers was nominated for the Mercury Prize. On 25 September 2017, the band announced that they were disbanding.

Boy King' is strikingly brave as it attempts to do away with much of this trademark charisma, stripping the characters who populate this world down to their ugly base primal urges; this is the first Wild Beasts album where the audience isn't always rooting for a song's protagonist.

Wild Beasts' Boy King is a woefully uncensored portrait of masculine libido woven through their aesthetically tightest record to date. Alpha Female begins as an ode to a boss ass chick, but soon enough the singer winds up behind this Alpha Female, as she presumably assumes doggy style

Wild Beasts is well-known as the band that playfully dissects machismo through their own particular take on synth art-rock. Their fifth album Boy King, however, takes that to a whole new level. The synths are glitzed out beyond belief. The rock aspects owe major influences to Jagger-swagger cock rock. And the lyrics are downright sexual. There’s a reason why singer Hayden Thorpe described the album as all fuck songs. It’s all swagger and posturing, bawdy and lewd. The dark glitz of this aggressive sound takes Wild Beasts into an interesting direction, but the substance itself is little more.
