The story of Aladdin and his magic lamp should be familiar to all, and on-stage at the London Palladium, Cliff Richard & the Shadows stuck with all the expected traditions, with just a string of specially composed musical numbers to distinguish their version from any of the countless other revivals that have been staged around the country over the years.

Themes from Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp is an extended play 45 rpm record released in 1965 by The Shadows. It was released on Columbia Records/EMI Records as SEG 8396 in mono and reached No. 14 in the UK EP charts in March 1965. The songs on the EP are excerpts from the London Palladium pantomime Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp. The liner notes were written by Derek Johnson of the New Musical Express. Side 1. Director: Dave Fleischer. The story of Aladdin is portrayed by Popeye and Olive Oyl here. It all begins when an evil sorcerer coaxes Aladdin (Popeye) to a dangerous cave to retrieve the magic lamp. When he retrieves the lamp, the sorcerer tries to trap Aladdin in the cave, but drops the lamp in first. When the lamp is rubbed, a magic genie pops out and grants Aladdin a wish of being a prince to fall in love with the beautiful princess (Olive Oyl). But now the evil sorcerer has kidnapped the princess and sends evil monsters after Aladdin, but with the help of his spinach power, he can put the trouble right.
