Untune The Sky ‎(LP, Cle). Untune The Sky ‎(CD, Album, RM). Flydaddy Records. The Moles (2). Untune The Sky ‎(2xLP, Comp, Ltd, RE). Kill Shaman.

This remastered and resequenced version of the album offers rare photos, lyrics, and cryptic liner notes by Davies ; it also features all the songs from both the CD and LP versions of the album, as well as all four tracks from the double-sided 7" What's the New Mary Jane? EP ("What's the New Mary Jane?," "Going Down," "Saint Jack," and "Let's Hook Up and Get Some").

A reissue of the Moles lp (+ their dbl 7" on Ringers Lactate. Impossible to find even when it was released back in the day. (believe me I looked. And just between you and me it's a corker. I've listened to it something along the lines of four times since yesterday and I'm still not completely sure how to describe the delights within. Classic off-kilter 1992 pop album from these little known Australian legends. This is strangely clever, left-field askew indie pop filled with all the sort of odd flavors that keep life ully off-key melodies, varied & peculiar rhythms with shiny, three-pronged hook lines, 60s style psychedelic explosions, distant-but-warm & compelling vocals and unexpected blasts of guitar noise.

Untune the Sky was originally recorded as a mini-album in a dingy studio in Sydney, although once they had found a label, Seaside (an offshoot of Waterfront, one of Sydney's legendary indie labels) they returned to the studio to extend it in to a full length. They soon felt that their future in Sydney was limited and set sail for London via New York. The Moles original line-up split in 1994 after homesickness took hold and the band imploded. Davies had found love and moved to the States but was not quite finished with the directions he had explored with The Moles. Full of songs from the London stay, the others blessed his intentions to capture them properly. Assembling a fantastic room full of players including Hamish Kilgour of The Clean, the resulting album Instinct managed to bridge his punk roots with the complex and influential arrangements he would soon perfect.

Named after Cold War spies, not small animals, The Moles were an Australian pop band led by Richard Davies (later of the one-off project Cardinal). They were formed in the late 1980s and broke up in the early 1990s, having released the album Untune the Sky and several singles. Davies later revived the band name for what was actually a solo project, Instinct.

The Moles were formed in Sydney and debuted in 1990 with the EP Untune the Sky. In 1991 they released their second EP, Tendrils and Paracetamol. 1992 followed their first full-length album Untune the Sky, after which The Moles relocated to New York, where they released a pair of seven-inch singles (later packaged together as the Double Single EP). After a move to London, The Moles broke up in 1993. In 1994, Davies revived The Moles, which resulted in their second album Instinct. Untune the Sky (1992, Seaside Records). Instinct (1994, Flydaddy Records).

Untune the Sky is a consort based in Oxford, specialising in soloistic ensemble performance. Throughout history, the Song of Songs has been a divisive text in liturgical contexts.
