Soap and Glory lipsticks: Mantrap and Naked Beige

As you know by now, when it comes to makeup I tend to be quite superficial: if it looks pretty, I`ll probably buy it. That`s why I have an on and off relationship with Benefit, one that always ends in tears when I see my bank statement. But recently I discovered Soap and Glory`s makeup stand and luckily it combines my love for a nice packaging with a reasonable price. Oh well, not that reasonable compared to other drugstore brands, but still around half price cheaper than Benefit.

While everyone seems to love their bath products, I don`t think the makeup range gets enough credit. Except for some holy grail products like the Archery or the Solar Powder, a lot of products seem to be ignored. But how can one pass by those flirty pin-up girls? As a sucker for everything vintage, I cannot! Boots currently has a buy one, get one half price offer, so that gave an excuse to try these gorgeous lipsticks, without spending an amount that would make me depressed.

The packaging itself is very appealing. While there is quite a sexual subtext with the lady...she`s kinda riding the lipsticks, it`s not vulgar. I actually find it funny. It looks girly, a bit vintage and has all the information you need. The lipsticks look quite plain, though, they are black and sleek and have the Soap and Glory logo.

As usual, I went for a nude and a red shade. Besides the colour, I also liked the names, I think they match the shades perfectly. Mantrap is a dark, brick red lipstick, the kind of shade that makes you look sexy and mature, but never cheap. Normally, red is a colour associated with passion and sexuality, so sometimes it can be a lot for everyday use. However, because of the brick undertones, I find it very suitable for this season. Naked Beige is a nude with peach undertones, it`s almost like your lips, but better kind of lipstick. I know now a lot of people are going through a nude period thanks to a famous Kardashian pout, so this is definitely worth trying.

Moving on to the formula, is one of the best I ever tried. They just glide on your lips, last for hours and are really comfortable to wear. Sometimes if a lipstick is very creamy, it will start to fade soon, but this is not the case: after 5 hours my lips still looked perfect. Because it has Monoi Butter and Vitamin E it won`t dry your lips, I would actually go that far and say it helps to keep them moisturised.

Unfortunately, I have not seen too many shades, but I will definitely go and try some more. At 9 pounds these might be the best lipsticks I ever tried, so I strongly recommend you check them out!

  4. These colours are lovely. I do like S&G packaging but after trying their eyeliner and being disappointed, I've been put off about trying any more!

    1. Was it Supercat? That one I think is really good..but then again, I think mascaras and eyeliners are a very personal choice and what one find brilliant, the other might find terrible.
